i think wanting conversations about cultural appropriation by idols to be done quietly a) is racist and b) i think is partly why this keeps happening over and over - it does a disservice to the work (mostly Black) fans are doing to try to get the groups/companies to understand
these conversations are important, and i can't imagine how Black fans feel having to rehash the same thing over and over and over again, and to me it feels like the conversations NEED to be public and open so that it can gain a wider understanding from the industry and public
and by need to be public i mean us non-Black (or those who are not of other cultures being appropriated) fans can NOT try to sweep all this under the rug. we need to boost and support, not undermine. i think the hush-hush nature of so much of it is the wrong way to look at it
this thread brought to you by the "please keep this to the dms! it will attract negative press!" reply i just saw
also a whole big part of the issue is that things like this will not generally bring the same type of negative press that other issues do in the korean media, and the fact that this will very likely not bring that negative press is actually PART OF THE PROBLEM imo
