Had a discussion with @Digital_Nash about people who gravitate to pulling others down when they’re looking for help. I realised today that this is a common trait among developers. Came across this blog post by @aprilwensel that highlights this https://link.medium.com/3VEKsjtOoab ">https://link.medium.com/3VEKsjtOo...
This was 2018. And in my 2020 class, I’ve noticed the same behaviour in the group chats. A clique is formed and they consider themselves the “it crowd” and continue to condescend those that ask perceived “stupid” questions. It’s now moved to YouTube where Indians are targeted.
It took me going back to Uni to accept that I have talent writing code. Others around me always told me but I never believed it because of toxic developers who made me feel dumb for wanting to learn. I have so much respect for The Indian dev community and what they’ve achieved
Looking at it from outside in, I see why there’s a disproportionate balance between males, females and POC in the tech space. There are unwritten rules that govern the institution. Anything that “doesn’t fit” is met with disdain and ridicule.
Didn’t mean to write such a long thread, but if you made it this far, then I assume you had a similar experience. So to you my tech sibling, I say, “forge your own path, and be proud. Never seek acceptance from a group that requires you to change who you are just to fit in”. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✌🏿" title="Siegeshand (dunkler Hautton)" aria-label="Emoji: Siegeshand (dunkler Hautton)">
