Good or bad, I've been in TX politics for over 30 yrs - mostly at the cong & down-ballot levels - from the last years of Dem control in the late 80's & early 90's through one-party GOP control since then.

Several things about this cycle are particularly notable:

1-5 to follow
This cycle in TX

1. @realDonaldTrump is poison & has pushed Dem prospects further & more quickly than any Dem could on their own. He shredded traditional conservative Republicanism & further defined @TexasGOP as a collection of sold-out incumbents & destructive idealogues.

2. No current statewide @TexasGOP officeholder helps down-ballot Rs. None have the courage or decency to break with Trump. Instead, they embrace him. @JohnCornyn & @GregAbbott_TX give no cover. @DanPatrickTX, @kenpaxton & congressional Rs are liabilities.

3. Late $$ from TX donors should be focused on the State House, where a Dem majority means disproportionate leverage on redistricting & policy. Go to

for candidates.

TX-focused orgs to help are: @lsptex , @AnniesListTX, @TexasHDCC

4. Pay attention & help excellent down-ballot statewide candidates like @ChrystaForTexas for RR Comm & Amy Clark Meacham for Chief Justice of Supreme Crt. They are both running against @KenPaxtonTX-like corrupt Rs. Both can win.

And, finally,

5. @JoeBiden could win TX at a bargain price. It normally takes an investment of $50M+ for a Dem to get to Oct 1st & be competitive. Biden is virtually tied w/ Trump in TX after spending almost nothing here. It's possible he takes TX investing $20M or less.
