At the crux of Indy’s crime problem is the lack of a shared vision for public safety. On the one hand there are groups that want more police oversight and on the other hand there are groups that want the police to do their jobs with adequate resources. The city must do first
thing’s first and that’s to get the city under control and thereafter have viable and intelligent conversations about how to hold the cities police force accountable when a officer oversteps their legal boundaries. The division is deep and the death is steep 🙏🏽
By the way, the city already has a civilian police oversight board and that board is comprised of good citizens, 4 appointed by the Mayor, 1 appointed by the City Council and 2 by the FOP. The only reason to create another layer of bureaucracy’s to “stoke” a new
board that can be controlled by influential others. If the legislation passes, the city will suffer for it.
