#CLST6 #RR8 The Athenian acropolis allows history (past & present) to coalesce at one beautiful location.
The Parthenon provides us with fascinating glimpses into the chaos & intrigue of Greek myths through remnants of narrative sculptures (of Gods, Amazons, Trojans, Centaurs, you name it).
We can also gain insight into the types of activities held at the Acropolis in the 5th century. The presentation of Athena's peplos over a door in the Parthenon highlights the religious & ritualistic potential of the building w/ events like Panathenaia likely being held there.
Perikles' & Thucydides' hope that the acropolis would stand as a testament to Athenian power & good character certainly came true. We still marvel at the grandeur of the acropolis thousands of years later.
