Social media is having a similar effect on elected Democrats that talk radio had on elected Republicans starting in the 1990& #39;s -- viral bits of information that are misleading or outright false get boosted in echo chambers. The Black Panthers did not invent the idea of charitable breakfasts, lol, but there& #39;s a political echo chamber that sends this meme around eachother (I& #39;ve seen it for years) who don& #39;t bother reading any of the history or really care to...
Black Panthers also used their school lunches to promote ethnonationalism and glorification of BP leaders, they& #39;d hang up propaganda of BP leadership and use them for political indoctrination. It wasn& #39;t just some charitable program.
One of the most influential people who lead the campaign to expand school lunch/breakfast was Jean E. Fairfax, who served in the NAACP from 1965 to 1984. She chaired a group called the Committee On School Lunch Participation, lobbying for years https://www.childrensdefense.org/child-watch-columns/health/2019/jean-fairfax-raised-the-bar/">https://www.childrensdefense.org/child-wat...
These women played a very important role in the expansion of the program by studying the programs that were in place since 1966 (and the 1940& #39;s, with respect to the school lunch program) and then reporting to and lobbying Congress
