Was doing some analysis in why CSK haven't started well, outside of just player form/lack of depth and why the structure hasn't clicked.
Thread below:
Explosive opener(Baz/Smith/Hayden/Watson)

Run aggregator (Hussey/Rayudu/Vijay)

Raina.

A floating sturdy 4(Badri/Faf/Saha/Jadhav)

Dhoni.
An all-round quick that is explosive at the back end and gives you overs at the death (Bravo/Kemp/Oram/Morkel/Curran)

A spinning all rounder(Jadeja/Negi)

A lead spinner that can bowl the powerplay as well(Ashwin/Bhajji)
An offensive spinner than can bowl in the middle overs(Tahir/Muralidaran)

A quick that can exploit early new ball conditions(Chahar/Pandey/Mohit/Balaji)

A foreign quick that can close out overs(Bollinger/Nannes/Ntini/Hilfenhaus/Lungi)
The major issue is that we have lacked our opening spinner given how much MS enjoys using spinners in the PP, we've missed Raina offering left handed ability in the middle and perhaps most importantly we've lacked a pivot in the middle overs since Faf opens and Jadhav is.... well
Ultimately also it comes down to Dhoni not striking it as well and a non-existent lower order bar Curran and Jadeja on the odd day. There's just too much pressure on the top3, which is evident because we've never seen Watto be so reserved. He knows the batting to follow is weak.
Someone is going to have to play tremendously out of their skin along with faf if we are to drag this franchise to the playoffs again.
