The most influential companies in the world sell you on a dream, not reality.

Time for a thread (inspired by @mkobach) 👇👇
GoPro marketing taps into your adventurous spirit. Their marketing leads you to believe with their camera your life will become more adventurous, skydiving, snow skiing etc..

When in reality often times you just end up with a slow motion video walking your dog
Apple marketing taps into your creative side. With their computer or phone you will design the most beautiful presentation, or build the most advanced technology.

When in reality you're just opening another google doc to take some notes.
Nike makes fitness fun and easy. When you put on their shoes you're immediately in great shape. Running through the hills of gorgeous scenery.

When in reality you're just at the gym waiting for someone to finish on the machine you want.
Coca-Cola taps into your desire for community. When you're drinking a coke you're sounded by friends and family for a memorable experience.

When in reality it's just a sugary liquid.
American Express, with their card you now have the ability to do something fun and spontaneous. You're part of an exclusive group that has special privileges.

In reality, you're just spending money.
Jeep, when you drive a jeep you're exploring the beautiful outdoors. Adventuring to parts of the world that you would otherwise never see.

When in reality you're stuck in traffic going to work.
The list goes on and on.

Moral of the story is if brand didn't sell you on a dream or an emotion they wouldn't create nearly as strong as a connection with their customers.

Also, reality isn't always that appealing.
