The Dolphins in 2019 made the organization-wide decision to make a hard reset. Fans knew this was needed, and yet still complained when players struggled, in spite of the remarkable talent differential week-to-week. However, they developed a few players, and established culture.
In the 2020 offseason, Miami took steps to reload the roster after the massive tear down. They paid for a few defensive stalwarts, found some role players, and drafted their FUTURE franchise QB coming off a massive hip injury which, reminder, jeopardized his entire career...
But the Dolphins knew that when they drafted him. So, going in with no real training camp, no preseason, it makes sense why they would not want to throw Tua to the wolves. Even if he had gotten all those things, the reload is only half-finished. This matters, and here's why.
Miami is not aiming for one playoff push and calling it a day. The Dolphins want to build a new DYNASTY. One that rivals Belichick's. Next offseason they have 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders, and an opportunity to load up on even more top FA talent. THAT is why 2021 is "the year."
So every time someone asks Coach Flores why Tua isn't playing yet, remember what the real answer is. Obviously, he can't outright say "we're waiting for next year." He'd be buried alive. That's why he didn't say it last year either. It's the same premise. Understand and accept it
