This was an eye opening morning as I saw racism/bullying first hand.

A mom phoned me at 12:45am crying asking if I knew of anyone who could take her & her child to the er. She didn’t want to call for an ambulance because earlier that year she had to do that for her daughter...
...and AISH still has not paid or covered her daughter’s ambulance bill. Her worker actually had the audacity to say she should have taken her to her family doctor instead of calling an ambulance. So instead of wanting to go through that headache and deal with her AISH worker...
...she called us. I answered the phone and I got out of bed and I went and picked up her and her child and drove them to the emergency room. You see this mom even called taxi companies (that I will not name) and was told that since her daughter might have Covid...
..,they couldn’t drive her. (Her daughter had an ear infection and her ear drum ruptured).

She called 811 and she was told to take her to the nearest ER and according to the wait times the fastest one was clear across the city.
She tried calling friends but no one would return her calls. So She called @HarvestHillsYYC, I picked up the phone and said to the crying mom that I would be there in 10 minutes and that I would stay with her until she was done. She was very thankful for our help.
So That’s what I did. On our way 2 the er I asked her how she found us & she said I helped her friend out & she was going to contact us for a food hamper because she is on her own & had just left an abusive relationship & moved here from Lethbridge with nothing but a few items
She used the last of her funds for an apartment for herself and her daughter and a few pieces of furniture but that was all she had money for.
I told her she was at the right place at the right time and that @HarvestHillsYYC would help. So as we sat waiting for a doctor she told me her life story. It hurt my heart to see such a young mom go through life with no support.
She made me cry when she began to tell me about how her AISH worker bullied her! Told her that some people had no right and didn’t deserve to have kids if they were already struggling!
She then told me that one time she has fallen and broke her ankle and so the hospital gave her a brace and she submitted the receipt to her worker and her worker denied it because it wasn’t pre approved! I didn’t know emergencies had to be preapproved first.
My mouth literally dropped open! Her daughter was seen and she was given antibiotics. She couldn’t afford to pay for them as it was something that wasn’t covered by her benefits, so @HarvestHillsYYC paid for it.
I drove her and her daughter back home just a short while ago and dropped them both off with the promise of bringing her and her daughter a hamper and a special feel better care package for her sweet Angel of a little girl!
If anyone would like to donate towards her small food hamper and care package for the little Angel, please see our profile bio for our donation Information or you can send an etransfer to:
