Today conlcuded the final session from @NIHR_RDSEM on applying for fellowships. Lots of useful tips for all stages of the pathway. Summarised some knowledge gems below.
Person
🔸Consider your 5/10 year plan- how can you become an established independent researcher.
🔸Create a researcher timeline of achievements
🔸Utilise your other commitments (in/outside of work) to demonstrate why YOU are the best person to complete the work
Project:
🔸Leave no "black box" unopened- explain every detail
🔸Be consistant
🔸Develop a strong dissemination plan- research is pointless without dissemination
PPI
🔸Properly costed PPI shows dedication and commitment- PPI is not a tick box exercise so utilise throughout the project
🔸Consider the needs of your PPI members
🔸Think BIG- what can PPI bring to the table
🔸Plain english summary is importnatn to sell your project
Place
🔸Choose your supervisors (doctoral) or mentors (post doc) wisely- what can they offer, how much time can they commit etc
🔸Why this institution? Justify
🔸Other support- CTU, CRN, RDS, R&I, Cochrane etc.
If you missed the sessions (what were you thinking???) don't worry the @NIHR_RDSEM have got you. Training on NIHR fellowships next week (see below)
