Very few people will probably read this, but I felt it was important to highlight some of the similarities between what Trump has been doing to America and the cult of personality around Mao Zedong that resulted in the Chinese Cultural Revolution. /1

So in the 60’s Mao had felt his power ebbing away, so using key surrogates in the education, media,political and military fields, he attacked his opponents, almost destroyed the CCP, created huge divisions in Chinese society and unleashed years of social and political upheaval /2

The result was the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution which lasted roughly 10 years, built on a solid bedrock of Mao as the center of a cult of personality, aided and abetted by a coterie of sycophants and power hungry individuals. China came very close to all out civil war /3

The only thing that stopped it from happening was Mao’s 2nd in charge - China Premier Zhao Enlai, who moderated many of Mao’s worst impulses but couldn’t save the lives of hundreds of top CCP party officials from imprisonment, torture and death which Mao directed /4

In America today there are some eerie parallels to some aspects of the Chinese Cultural Revolution - the cult of personality, the use of media and the development of local militia to create chaos.
In China they were called Red Guards.
In America we call them Proud Boys

Trump has essentially done a hostile take over of the GOP and bent it to his political whims in much the same way that Mao directed his supporters to “Bombard the Headquarters” of the CCP. Luckily for America they still have a democracy although it’s under enormous strain. /6

Another 4 years of Trump would mean America going further down the path towards widespread civil unrest as China almost did in the late 1960’s at the height of the Cultural Revolution. The only thing that stopped it was the cool head of Zhou Enlai who... /7

...Brought the army in to restore order among the various armed militia factions.
America has no Zhou Enlai to Trump.
America could easily slip towards that form of tyranny
There’s nothing to stop him other than this opportunity you have to vote him out.
