tw/// slurs

i think this is a good example of how people completely fail and disregard the importance of good science communication, and while I understand and encourage people to talk about the ideas he's talked about in this thread https://twitter.com/ballestlavie/status/1313122689716944897
the truth is none of the ideas and theories presented are his, he is just sharing a paper he found. Which is fine. The paper itself has a strong handle of what's racist but open to hearing otherwise.
What IS concerning is just this thread existing in the first place. I feel like most people's issue with this is misplaced on the paper he's regurgitating and not the racist was it's presented.
I shouldn't have to explain that unsurprisingly The Semantics of Racial Epithets doesn't open with the same statement in this thread. Because the author has an understanding of how context can shape statements and writes an entire god damn paper on that, specifically with epithets
The prime example used by the author isnt even using the n slur. That was a choice made in this twitter thread to change it to that.
The paper itself presents different theories each openly with their own flaws, and responsible communication would admit that. This thread doesn't.
I mean look let's just say what it is, its a shock value statement, and then copy-pasted text from a paper ending with racism is bad, all for engagement. Any criticism of the existence of the thread is then shifted to a criticism of the paper to avoid this guy being responsible
