I think one of the genuinely Unpopular Opinions I don& #39;t bring up very often is that I really am a minimalist in terms of physical possessions, and people like to make a sport of dunking on that and calling it progressive, and it tends to get under skin and piss me off
It& #39;s one of those zombie backlash things, I think

Like everyone who gets all self-righteous like "People who don& #39;t own furniture don& #39;t deserve to live" *thinks* they& #39;re striking back against a movement that says "People who get rid of furniture are spiritually enlightened"
But I never, ever actually see anyone expressing the latter sentiment for real

It& #39;s a giant strawman pinata

Like if someone in the world actually thinks that and thinks people who own too much stuff are "materialistic" and "shallow" etc they sure as fuck aren& #39;t on Twitter
Anyway it actually is very important to me, for deep psychological reasons, to feel like if I had to I could pack everything I own in the world into a car and drive into the sunset and vanish
This isn& #39;t really because of actually being afraid I& #39;ll have to flee from people trying to kill or arrest me

Although it isn& #39;t 100% *not* that, given the weird shit that& #39;s happened to me over the past several years
I just wish people would be respectful that other people have different desires and needs

It& #39;s not like I& #39;m asking you to live with me
