i am usually not political on anitwt, but this is my only platform wherein my voice could be heard. you may opt to scroll past this tweet, but this means a lot to me and i want to share it.

the pandemic has certainly been stressful and disheartening for many filipinos.

(1/11)
and education is compromised for less privileged filipinos. (see #AcademicFreezeNOW, #LigtasNaBalikEskwela, #NoStudentLeftBehind) teachers also struggle to sustain their families AND educate their students. in the PH, this issue is always overlooked by our gov’t.

(2/11)
but this thread isn’t about the subpar education system in the PH, but HOW filipinos picture this pandemic as a “blessing in disguise.” if you look closely at the image (a modular assessment from a provincial school), the questions are manifestation of toxic positivity.

(3/11)
essentially, these questions train students to think that the national strain during the pandemic is NORMAL, which i believe is not. here’s why:

(4/11)
stress is normal and to some extent, healthy. (see: http://shorturl.at/kMRY6 )

this is too much. many lost their lives to this “stress” and guess what? the gov’t isn’t doing SHIT in alleviating the situation — LIKE WHAT THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO. our gov’t turned their backs.

(5/11)
as a nation, we cannot cope with the less of BILLIONS OF PESOS. how will can dumping sand over manila bay HELP ANYONE? in fact, it only increases the spread the virus. mental health? people are undergoing stress because millions have lost their jobs and income.

(6/11)
so it infuriates me that filipinos — especially those in power — deceive the citizens into thinking that it’s not all that bad WHEN THEY’RE SUPPOSE TO LEAD US TO RECOVERY.

but they’re only averting the attention of the mass to not hold themselves accountable.

(7/11)
and we can’t blame the poor bc they’re the afflicted; they took the blow of capitalism and greed. while harry roque’s in the goddamn beach, frontliners SACRIFICE their safety for others. people are economically struggling while politicians deny their blatant crimes.

(8/11)
it angers me so much bc these people have the right to a decent living and security. and our gov’t SWORE to serve them and yet, they’re fucking around in their golden thrones. these people have every right to be in a better position after decades-long of poverty.

(9/11)
i KNOW my privilege and RECOGNIZE that this is unfair. i study in a reputable uni without any hassle whatsoever. so I DEMAND MY GOV’T TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OVER THEIR ACTIONS — for my own countrymen. for the future & ambitions of less fortunate students unlike me.

(10/11)
tl;dr: the PH gov’t has long abused the power of “filipino resilience” which manifests in so many ways. (e.g. modular assessments. see image above) they’re doing us a disservice with their lack of accountability.

thank you for reading (if you made it this far) 🧡
