Essendon fans, I want to say this. (Stay with me)

When Nathan Buckley took the reins at Collingwood, he wanted to instil 𝙝𝙞𝙨 standards, 𝙝𝙞𝙨 expectations and 𝙝𝙞𝙨 culture on the group.

And when that change up happened, it didn’t exactly resonate with 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 players.
Those players were moved on via either their own call, or the clubs.

It took time for Buckley’s side to become Buckley’s side - not Mick’s.
But as his idea grew, the DNA was formed, and those that didn’t meet the criteria - whether character, skill, or otherwise were no longer at the club when the ascendency up the ladder began to roll out.
For every five-odd players who seek greener pastures, 10 will do anything to make the move.

With that being said, don’t worry about who is leaving. They’re doing you a favour. Instead worry about who wants to stay, who believes in the process, who backs Ben Rutten + co.
Sure, there will be lemons to suck now, but look around at what you do have. 16 flags, a passionate fan base, great facilities, a long standing club that is steeped in tradition which means you’ll never fail to attract players.
The tough times make the good times sweeter. I can attest to that. There will be better days ahead.
