I was an engineer intern on the Facebook Groups team, 10 years ago today. Groups was one of the most successful Facebook products of all time and we built it in ~5 months with ~5 full-time and 2 interns.

Easily the best job I’ve ever had https://twitter.com/boztank/status/1313680402112888835
Fun fact: I was the one who assigned Zuck the bug that led to his final commit in the Facebook codebase.

The bug was that for posts in the feed the profile picture of the poster was supposed to link to the profile page but the link tag was missing.
It recall it took zuck more time to set up his environment (1-2 hours) than to fix the bug itself. But he really wanted to write code to help with the launch.

This was when Facebook had 500 million users so I was really impressed that the CEO still wanted to be that involved
Another fun fact: The first version we prototyped worked like IRC, with one big real-time chat channel for the whole group.

Then we realized it was chaotic without threading, so we changed it back to a traditional feed but with live-updating comments.
