My mum’s got skin cancer and having surgery and wont be able to care for my dad, who has significant brain damage from a stroke, and yet WA... has rejected my exemption application to fly over, quarantine with them and care for them. Begs the question, who IS being approved??
Applying again with more documentation
Also! Both my parents are ok. Nothing life-threatening. My dad is still awesome and gets to do stuff he enjoys, he just needs help. Once my mum recovers from her surgery she will also be fine. But there will be a few weeks there where it would be very tough for her on her own.
Annnd before this becomes a thing, I explained my dad’s disability but suspect I needed more documentation to prove it. So I’ll try that again. It’s disappointing though and they only give you a few hundred words to explain your situation, I hope I get it right next time.
I’m also glad I have a bit of time before the surgery, can’t imagine how demoralising this would be if I didn’t have time to reapply. My heart really goes out to people stuck in a similar (but more urgent) boat.
Also while I appreciate the sentiment behind you guys tagging the premier, I think it's more appropriate to reapply first before petitioning those in power. Also it's WA Police who make the decision. I initially tweeted because I guess I was just surprised at the rejection.
My mum has a tele appointment this afternoon with my dad's doctor to discuss additional documentation - this after the first receptionist insisted that the earliest she could do was next Wednesday.
I'm gonna mute this thread now as I'm making dinner, and also I would like to stop seeing the words "my mum has skin cancer" pop up on my phone for a little while, but thank you to everyone who has made such helpful suggestions. Good luck to anyone in the same boat!
