ok so op i respectfully disagree with a lot of this thread but this specifically i need to comment on—people absolutely found jack hot on a large scale. you could potentially argue that his popularity didn’t stem from tumblr (which is fair) (1/?) https://twitter.com/dravenkondrakl/status/1313677750755102720">https://twitter.com/dravenkon...
but that ignores how influential he was as a proto-sexyman. The thing with jack is, his widespread popularity in the 2000s (every hot topic shopper was obsessed with the dude) was a predecessor to online worship of similar characters. (2/4)
Furthermore, i’m gonna argue that proto-sexymen are still sexymen, wrt cases like jack/the warden—sexyman culture isn’t based on who’s “the new onceler”, it’s ultimately a meme culture that these characters have historically been included in (ex: this post, “happy birthday sexy”)
finally i’m gonna throw in this diagram that i made a while back that shows jack to be the common ancestor of modern sexymen
anyway no disrespect i just take any opportunity i get to write an essay abt sexymanthropology
