That feeling of so much going the wrong way at once has to do with the interconnection of complex systems. Change feeds on itself, it gets going faster and faster. It's disorienting.
But here's the thing. Those type of processes can flip. Vicious cycles can become virtuous ones. It's the same set of connections spinning, lifting up, instead of tearing down.
Where there is the potential to be disoriented at how fast things are getting bad, there is the potential to be disoriented at the speed of improvement.
Coherence around one set of values can switch to coherence around another set, and suddenly the whole pattern shifts.
Walls fall. Regimes shift. No on believes in the old thing anymore, and in fact, their confidence was shaky all along.
You know how quickly we've gotten to this place, that's from feedback loops like consolidation of power, and coherence around corruption.
But power can consolidate in other ways. Shared power can consolidate. People power can consolidate.
Coherence can be around many values, not only about corruption. It can be about love. It can about accepting our interconnection. It can be about truth and science and a long view.
But we would need to be as brash about mutuality as others right now are about selfishness. As unaccepting of old norms. You don't get these kind of flips by tinkering around the edges. You have to commit to a different organizing principle.
What could go right? And going right, make even more go right?
