I've seen a few people surprised at there being guns in PRIORY.

PRIORY is not a medieval fantasy. It's based on the 16th-17th century. Firearms were in widespread use (if slow to load) at this time, alongside cold weapons.
Other technology levels, fashion, government etc are also largely rooted in that period, not in the Middle Ages. The ruffs and attifets the Inysh wear are distinctly Elizabethan, for example.
Since I mentioned fashion, a note about the corsets in PRIORY:

Not all corsets throughout history were like the body-crushing Victorian and Edwardian examples. In the Elizabethan era, they turned the torso into a cylinder rather than an hourglass, and were far more comfortable.
They function as underwear in PRIORY, supporting the bust the way a modern bra does, rather than brutally moulding the silhouette. So, don't worry, Sabran and Ead aren't having their organs crushed by tightly-laced corsets like the one Rose wears in TITANIC.
Sorry, perhaps I didn't phrase this very well:

I am aware that not all Victorian and Edwardian corsets were uncomfortable, hence me saying ‘examples’ – there seems to be a misconception that every corset is one of those extreme ones, which were Victorian and Edwardian.
