I got tested for STDs today! Who wants to hear about it?
Today I had my annual GYN appointment. Now, I haven't had sex with anyone but myself for well over a year. Why get tested?

Well, the most common symptoms of most STDs are no symptoms at all. You can have syphilis for YEARS before it begins to cause problems.
Plus, I am not planning to remain celibate for the rest of my life. I don't want any surprises once I become sexually active again.

So should you get tested? Probably! This site has a nice list of recommendations for who should get tested.

If you aren't having any symptoms, why get tested?
Well, there are a few serious issues that can arise if an infection goes untreated.
So what exactly is an STD test? Here is a brief explanation.
There are a few different ways to test for STDs, and there is no single test for all STDs.

Today, my provider swabbed my vagina and cervix with two different swabs. These were for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichamoniasis.
The only discomfort I felt from this procedure was from the speculum.

I am also going tomorrow for a blood draw to test for the rest of the STDs. Your doctor might order a urine test instead.
These tests can easily be worked into routine appointments. Discomfort from the procedures is minimal. And your health could be negatively effected if you are asymptomatic.

So what is stopping you from getting tested?
