The fact that Eddie Van Halen DIDN& #39;T tell his band members is because he KNEW somebody would reject the idea. He did it because je knew it was a chance to work with another Legend & blend his style of rock with rhythm & blues. Yes, David Lee Roth probably heard a similar version

of the guitar solo Eddie did before but it was Eddie& #39;s "signature", like @Prince had variations of riffs & runs that were the same on different songs. For Eddie, it was about unity, good music & breaking ground.
