Hey, writers who are participating in #nanowrimo2020 (in whatever shape or form that looks like for you):

I'm rolling out a fast drafting tip every day for the next twenty days! I'll keep them all linked together in a big thread. Ready for the first one?
#NaNoWriMo tip #1:
The answer is always yes.

Am I a good enough writer?
Can I really pull off this plot point?
Will anyone care about this?
Is this worth my time?

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

NaNo is a wonderful time to lower the stakes around your writing and just PLAY.
Just like in improv, the more you say YES to yourself while fast drafting, the better your writing will go.

Will you make mistakes? Yes.
Will you have to revise when you miss the mark? Yes.

"YES" doesn't guarantee a perfect book. But it's a surefire tool for creating with joy.
(I suppose I should add a caveat that although I speak in prescriptions, take and pick the tips as needed! There's no right way to write, so if you don't agree, go ahead and make a dartboard out of my face! Then go write your novel your way!)
I'll be back with another #NaNoWriMo fast drafting tip tomorrow!

In the meantime, practice saying YES now while you're prepping for your book. YES, you are good enough. YES, you can make this idea grow in time for November 1st. YES, you have the writing chops to do it!
