If an organization is going to have a manel of all straight white cis men on pretty much any topic now, in 2020, they should be prepared to be called on it. Publicly.

Most ESPECIALLY in the Age of Zoom where you can get people from ANYWHERE.

Just do the work.
"But everyone we asked couldn't do it!"
"But I don't know any people of [whatever background that you don't have a million contacts of]"

OK, yeah, it takes more time to do the work and

a) do the research to find the people who could be a good match for the program
b) send out multiple asks if your first person isn't available when you could just, like, ask another one of your white dude buddies

c) invest in developing more long-term relationships with folks who might have more diverse networks for you to tap
d) expand your understanding of who holds what kind of expertise where, and that there are kinds of wisdom and expertise that might not look like the cookie-cutter thing you're used to
e) Oh, do the internal work (as an individual and/or an org) to deal with the racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc. that may make it so that people of diverse backgrounds don't trust you or want to support you! Maybe start there tbh.
and needless to say f) Make sure there are actual real dollars set aside to pay people for their time, labor and expertise.

Yes, it's more work.

But friends, it's 2020, time to do some work. Budget that time and money into your program planning.
