I know a lot of political streamers have been asking questions about the new Twitch TOS changes. Here's what I got from staff 1/
- Are ANTIFA / BLM categorized as terror groups? No, they are not currently categorized as terror groups.
- What is the line between commentating / covering and glorifying? Users can comment about terrorist or violent extremist groups, as long as they are not sharing propaganda material of such groups (including graphic media of violent acts)
or glorifying or promoting their actions or individual actors. For example, if a user is just stating facts about a terrorist/extremist acts or actors without any type of endorsement of the group or sharing of propaganda materials, they should be fine.
- What about protests? We support our community in sharing footage from protests, and such content should be largely unaffected by these updates.
However, we do not permit threatening to or encouraging others to commit acts that would result in serious physical harm to groups of people or significant property destruction.
- Can I not commentate on Proud Boys, etc anymore? The FBI categorizes Proud Boys as an extremist group with ties to white nationalism.
Similar to the response above, commenting or discussing a terrorist or violent extremist group is ok as long as you do not show propaganda materials from such groups, or endorse/encourage/promote the groups or the individual actors.
And that's the thread. Please feel free to DM me if you have any more specific questions, would be happy to ask staff about it.
