You know that big antitrust report coming out any day now -- for months? Seems Rep. @DavidCicilline has given up on getting Rs to sign it. Instead, leftists are asking R house members to sign Rep. Buck’s minority report (recently leaked). That& #39;s weird & a bad idea. THREAD
The Buck report is surely better than the still-absent majority& #39;s report when it comes to "solutions." But Buck& #39;s report echoes & even applauds the Dems& #39; narrative about tech companies - a narrative that emphasizes harm to competitors and ignores harm to consumers. 2/
Endorsing that narrative lays the groundwork for a fundamental change to the antitrust laws, even though Buck disclaims any desire to do so. That& #39;s why Cicilline is desperate for Rs to sign on to Buck& #39;s report - it ultimately will help radical Ds advance their biggest reforms. 3/
And though the solutions in the Buck report look mild in comparison to the burn-it-down approach we might expect from the majority report, there are also has serious problems, as others have explained. 4/ https://twitter.com/ProfWrightGMU/status/1313527855511461888?s=20">https://twitter.com/ProfWrigh...
Republicans angry with big tech have better ways to express that anger. They shouldn& #39;t let revenge drive them into helping Dems distort the antitrust laws that apply to all businesses. Signing on to the Buck report would be the wrong choice. /THREAD https://nationalaffairs.com/time-choosing-conservative-case-against-weaponizing-antitrust">https://nationalaffairs.com/time-choo...
