It's horrifying and shameful that in some cities folks need a 98th-percentile income to create a secure, comfortable life for themselves and their children.
I grew up in this social class. Many folks in it are LEGIT terrified that more taxes will mean economic insecurity.
I grew up in this social class. Many folks in it are LEGIT terrified that more taxes will mean economic insecurity.
But it doesn't work like that. If we improve the safety net, upper-middle-class folks don't need to fear taxes, because those taxes won't be taking away their security. They'll be providing it to everyone.
The trick is figuring out how to present that fact to the media-gatekeeper class, who are VERY MUCH embedded in the social mileu of the scared near-rich.
