In my area I am responsible for workplace cases of COVID and managing outbreaks.
It's interesting that the perception is that Public Health want to close businesses down.
My job is to identify what circumstances led to the case(s) and advise controls to prevent spread.
I do a series of interviews to find out what happened and whether the workplace was the site of transmission. I need to try and find out specifically what didn't work so that it can be fixed going forward.
The decision to close a business is made carefully.
Closing a business can help if there is a very large outbreak and it can't be staffed safely or if the business need time to put things in place.
But it's not the answer to every scenario.
The important thing is to strengthen measures at work so it can be safer long term.
When you learn Public Health first you will be shown the Dahlgren and Whitehead model which demonstrates the factors which determine our health.

That includes employment.
