1/ This year the @w3c is taking a step toward making it’s annual international standards conference (TPAC) more inclusive. The virtual breakout sessions are now free to attend and open to the public! https://www.w3.org/2020/10/TPAC/breakout-schedule.html#breakout

[THREAD]
If you care about privacy, security, and accessibility on the web, web standards are a great place to be, and these breakout sessions are a great place to start. No prior experience with W3C is needed, newcomers are more than welcome ( #NoCodeSnobs).
Working on web standards can mean a lot of things, including looking for bugs in browsers, writing tests, writing and reviewing specifications, and more! You can read more about becoming a co-maintaner of the web in the Web Platform Contribution Guide: https://twitter.com/bocoup/status/1265317940783546369
Topics are still streaming in for the breakouts. Examples topics we might expect to see include:
* Intro to W3C & how to get started contributing
* Inclusion, diversity, accessibility, & justice
* Artistic use cases for XR
* Nonviolent communication in web standards
* and more!
Beyond the conference, this first-ever public and virtual breakout series is an important step toward building a more inclusive and welcoming web standards community.
Thank you @dontcallmeDOM for pulling resources together to make this possible, and @laurenleemack & @sheilamouss for joining the organizing committee to help guide the work. :clap: :clap: :tada:,
We’d love to see you virtually at TPAC this year! Sign up by October 19 to join the open sessions during the week of Oct 26-30.
