Thread 🚨
In our first thread, we’ll talk about (AVL & WHU), all key points and analysis that will help us choose our #FPL assets.
We’ll talk about (BHA & TOT) in another thread later this week.
Retweets appreciated. 🤗
1- Aston Villa
Aston Villa have won all their first three games in the Premier League. And of course, what’s more interesting is that one of these games was against the Premier League champions and the result was 7-2.
Before Liverpool, Villa have beaten Sheffield United and Fulham.
Emi Martinez looked confident and kept two clean sheets. Jack Grealish scored against Fulham and could have scored a goal against Sheff Utd in the last few minutes of the game.
Before Liverpool, Villa looked better than what we expected from them before the start of the season, Jack Grealish was also on the watchlist for so many #FPL managers before Liverpool.
Then they played against Liverpool,
Ross Barkley looked so good in his debut, playing as a number 10, he scored a goal but could’ve scored more if he was lucky.
The question is now, which Villa players to trust as long-term options in #FPL?
I will start with Emi Martinez, who looks like he is the best value goalkeeper right now after keeping two clean sheets in three games, and 9 saves including 3 against Liverpool.
Emi Martinez showed how good he is after Leno was injured against Brighton last season, Emi played 10 games last season for Arsenal after Leno’s injury and surprised everyone with his incredible performances. So, Emi Martinez at £4.6m is the one GK you should consider.
-Jack Grealish
An impressive start from Villa’s main man makes his ownership rise to 13.6%. A goal against Fulham, good performance against Sheffield United and an incredible performance against Liverpool with 3 assists and 2 goals, scoring 24 points.
Villa will play against Leicester next. Leicester have conceded 7 goals in their first 4 games, their defense didn’t look solid as Ndidi is out injured. The fixture doesn’t look as hard as it looks on paper for Villa, Jack Grealish scored a goal against Leicester last season..
.. but it is also worth noting that Villa have lost each of the two PL games against Leicester last season, conceding 8 goals and scoring only one goal, but does it matter?
I don’t think so, especially after seeing how crazy and unpredictable things are going this season.
-Ross Barkley
After his performance against Liverpool and being £1.1m cheaper than Jack Grealish, people now started to consider him as the Villa player they should go for.
Also, Villa fans are suggesting that he will be on penalties which makes it more interesting to go for him.
For me, I will go Barkley over Grealish and invest the £1.1m elsewhere. I need to see more from Villa to be honest as I’m not going to make that crazy game against Liverpool affect me in a way that it shouldn’t. Barkley is the right choice for me until I see more from Villa.
Ollie Watkins
A crazy hat-trick against the champions is enough to bring him straight in your #FPL team. But is he a long-term option?
In the championship last season, Watkins has scored 26 goals and assisted 3 goals for Brentford.
Another stat that worth mentioning is that Watkins has attempted 1232 passes last season in the championship with a 75% pass completion rate. Based on his games with Brentford last season, Watkins will occasionally drift wide or deeper into a #10 role.
However, most of the time Watkins will stay central and try to exploit the space in behind the two defenders.
Watkins has scored 8 of his 26 goals from headers (30%), he is very good at finding the space in the box between defenders.
-Stats from (FootballBH).
If you really want him as a long-term option, I would suggest waiting a few more weeks with keeping a close eye on him, then he might be one of your strikers for a long time.
He’s £5.9m and very likely to rise in the international break. Make a quick and wise decision.
2- West Ham United
It is very obvious that most of us thought WHU will be an easy fixture for most of our assets, especially after they lost 0-2 to Newcastle.
They played well against Arsenal in their second game despite losing 2-1.
They surprised everyone after winning...
... 4-0 against Wolves, then winning 0-3 against Leicester only one week after Leicester beat Man City 2-5.
They have conceded ONLY one goal against Arsenal, Wolves and Leicester.
They have Tottenham, City and Liverpool next, but do fixtures matter to them anymore?
That’s a tough question, they could still impress and they could also struggle in those games.
For me, I won’t go big on WHU at the moment, maybe going for Antonio is not bad as he’s proved that fixtures don’t matter to him.
Jarrod Bowen was one of the players on my watchlist after his performances post-restart last season.
With 3 goals in his last 2 PL games, I will keep an eye on him as he might be in my team after WHU’s tough fixtures are played.
They might prove once again that fixtures don’t matter to them, but I won’t risk it, at least for now.
