Morelle: "I've worked with people on both sides of the aisle" in both Albany and Washington (Katko, Reed, Higgins), and will continue to do so.
Mitris: came to U.S. at age 8, "got an education through hard work and playing by the rules." Promises to "raise expectation of what Congressman can be, could be and should be" by acting as a unifier.
Mitris says he "wholeheartedly agrees with message of BLM" but rejects violence; says there should be police reform with adequate funding to add MH services. "This country was founded upon equity as well as liberty."
Both Morelle and Mitris say Trump and the Senate should not push Amy Comey Barrett's nomination through before the election (or in Nov-Dec, if Biden wins).
Mitris calls USPS "an American treasure" and supports its funding but differentiates from voter fraud concerns. “Every single American ought to be concerned about voter fraud because it goes to the heart of the legitimacy of our democracy.”
Morelle: "There is no evidence of voter fraud anywhere in this country when it comes to absentee balloting. … I fear this is intended to suppress the vote, and that’s tragic."
Mitris says "not to throw the baby out with the bath water" regarding Affordable Care Act. Wants to preserve private care while expanding coverage. Both want Medicaid to be able to negotiate for lower prices.
On photonics and job creation: Mitris criticizes project for failing to create jobs; calls for lower taxes and safer communities. "We need to till the soil so we can start to plant." Morelle says photonics is a bigger picture than just the Lake Avenue facility.
Morelle, regarding Warren indictment: "Yesterday was a sad day for us in this community. Obviously the mayor has pleaded innocent and will have her day in court, and that’s how it should be."
Mitris: “The newspapers recently reported the RCSD is the worst in the state and the second-worst in the entire country.”
Mitris supports charter schools, choice, etc.
Neither of them support federal funding for a new @BuffaloBills stadium.
In closing, Mitris repudiates "party politics" but offers no specific policies. Morelle notes that climate change did not come up in the debate.
