A thread on what's going on with Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (also known as Artaskh) (1/?)

Nagorno-Karabakh has for thousands of years been a part of historic Armenia but during Soviet Union Stalin decided to "give" the area and create the country known as Azerbaijan even though the region was and still currently is over 98% Armenian.

On Feb 20th 1988 the region DEMOCRATICALLY voted with 99% in favor of re-unifying with Armenia but Azerbaijan refused and thus fighting broke out and by 1992 a full scale war broke out.

In 1994 a ceasefire was signed by both sides and temporary peace was restored. But over the years Azerbaijan has continually broken cease fire and in 2016 another clash occurred killing 18 Armenian soldiers and injuring 35.

Now you may be wondering why does this matter?

Well now in 2020 Azerbaijan once again broke the ceasefire in July and the situation has continued to escalate.

Azerbaijan has continually attacked and shelled the region in the past 10 days. Now Azerbaijan keeps saying #DontBeleiveArmenia but not only are they using illegal weapons (cluster bombs) and hired mercenaries but they have also begin to destroy Armenian villages

Meanwhile the president of Artaskh (the disputed territory) has continually stated that they are only aiming for military bases and soldiers when firing missiles and do not want any civilian deaths. Does this sounds like nation of Terrorists?

Azerbaijan has continued to shell civilian areas of Stepanakert and has started firing missiles into Armenia proper (not a disputed territory). And they have begun to take over Armenia villages. Places where our ancestors grew up and survived through Genocide

Armenia has already suffered hundreds of civilian casualties yet media in the US refuses to report what is going on and @Twitter @jack allow rampant misinformation on this platform by allowing Turkey and Azerbaijan to say #DontBeleiveArmenia. We need help.

Armenians all over the world are screaming for help.

Our ancestry is actively being destroyed.

We are hurt.

We are crying.

Our hearts are bleeding for our soldiers back home.

We just want to survive. Continuing our lives of eating, signing and dancing.

For anyone who still might believe they need to listen to "both" sides. Turkey and Azerbaijan have almost over 100 million citizens while Armenia has just over 3 million.

Azerbaijan has also banned all social media so they can control the narrative.
