Honestly, I think this is a sign that the people in charge of editorial decisions at @CNBC are wildly out of touch. https://twitter.com/CNBC/status/1313489245823283201
One of the fun things about my educational experience has been meeting countless classmates who describe themselves as "middle class" when in fact, they were far wealthier than what younger me had ever imagined was possible.
For me, growing up, middle class meant you could afford a decent pre-owned car, and actually owned a home that wasn't on wheels or falling down. Having parents who could pay for college was unimaginable wealth.
I would argue that my experience is closer to the average American experience, especially given the rising costs of college tuition, and stagnating wages. For the average American, $400,000 a year is unimaginable wealth, no matter what city you live in.
