i guess this should be a reminder that you don’t actually know famous online personalities. what they portray on screen/on social media is sometimes nothing like who they are in real life. healthy boundaries need to be created between famous personality and fan
and this goes BOTH WAYS. fans should create healthy boundaries from these creators because they don’t actually know them. creators need to step back from fans and acknowledge that they have POWER over their fans. abusing that power is extremely dangerous.
this isn’t to say that genuine friendships cannot form from a creator/fan dynamic. i was a fan of one of my best friends once!!! but we BOTH practiced healthy and safe creator/fan boundaries and a close and genuine friendship bloomed from there.
i’m just seeing a lot of fans, ESPECIALLY younger fans, just being so extremely hurt and heartbroken when there’s a scandal about an online creator. and it’s just sad... parasocial relationships have become so normalized but boundaries NEED to be formed
ALSO seeing a lot of fans disputing any claim and saying they’re fake because “i’ve watched every video they’ve done and this person would NEVER do something like that”

you don’t know that person. you don’t know what they would and would not do in real life.
