Ready for this week's #TipsforRxStudents? #Feedback is the name of the game!

We will focus on:

1⃣ Asking for feedback
2⃣ Receiving feedback

To emphasize, feedback:

1⃣ Is a critical part of learning
2⃣ Is intended to provide you direction to self-improve 💪
2/

3⃣ Determines progress towards goal
4⃣ May clarify expectations
5⃣ At times be what you need to hear vs. want to hear

For 5⃣: we discussed self-reflection last week 👇 but getting a diff, experienced PoV may 🔍 aspects to improve. https://twitter.com/BIDMCPharmRes/status/1311279387468324864?s=20

Asking for feedback:

1⃣ Can be hard as a student! One reason may be thoughts of "hierarchy." But we are here to help you!
2⃣a. Set expectations ASAP! What are your goals for the experience? A great thread on goal-setting by @AJWPharm: https://twitter.com/AJWPharm/status/1263981342515216384?s=20

2⃣b. How often do you want feedback? Personally, I give feedback on at least a daily basis to my learners! And #FeedbackFriday for scheduled session.
3⃣ Ask your preceptor for guidance! How do they provide/ask for feedback? Can they reach out to other HCPs for their comments?
5/

Over time, it can be engrained in your system for self-reflection. For some additional comments on asking for feedback, see this thread 👇 including some of the great @BIDMC_IM + @HarvardPulm physicians we work with!

Receiving feedback:

1⃣a. Feedback = intended to improve, not to hurt. May be diff (at times) to separate prof vs. personal, but this is important for self-improvement!
1⃣b. Ideally in private setting
1⃣c. If believe personal attack, should be addressed ASAP!
7/

2⃣ Feedback should be as specific as possible, meaning is should be assoc w/ ☝️ Specific example and ✌️ Specific recommendation!

🎬 Preceptor providing feedback on in-service to med residents on vanco TDM:

"You had great flow for pres and 👌 infographic!
8/

Although you discuss @ASHPOfficial /IDSA guidelines and provided great summary, I rec to include what our institutional policy is for AUC/MIC dosing. Including basic info on our protocol helps with clinical app/relevance for their appro use of vanco!"
9/

Some tips:

1⃣ Helps to provide your own self-feedback first! This can ID diff in your eval vs. preceptor's = self-reflect!
2⃣ Incorporate feedback for future!
3⃣ Over time, constructive feedback helps most, as self-reflection skills ID 🤔 went well.
