I assisted my first surgery today.
Elective Retropubic prostatectomy.

For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a surgeon, first started with neurosurgery but what a lol 😂. I didn't have great experiences in surgery back in med school so I wasn't sure of surgery.
Today we waited for a while before the surgery started, out of the blues I was asked to scrub in. A rush of endorphins flooded my system and I was happy af đŸ€Ł. Before I knew it, I had the gear on.
I stood there a while not knowing what to do as there was already 1 assistant.
After a while, I started hearing "Chukwuemeka suction". My consultant is the only person that calls me Chukwuemeka.
I grabbed the suction machine and went at it, I had such a huge smile on my face 😂
Surgery lasted about 3 hours, my legs were hurting a bit but my smile was everlasting. I'll look at my colleague and say snap me , snap me 😂😂.
It was in that moment, I realised that this was it. Emeka, the surgeon đŸ’Ș✊
