I recently helped an unemployed friend secure an offer ON THE SPOT for a marketing role making $30K more in a smaller city during a pandemic.

Here’s my job interview hack that will get you hired ON THE SPOT with the salary you desire.

A thread.

🧵
The premise of my super-secret hack is to target the overlap between what the company needs and what only you can provide.

This is what I like to call the Bullseye Technique. I use it when writing resumes, preparing people for interviews, networking, etc.
In order to bring the Bullseye Technique to life, the hack is to create a PITCH DECK that outlines a major problem facing the business or client and how you'd solve it in your role.

Seems simple, but most people can't or won't do it (and will miss out on BANDS bc of it).
Background: My friend Danielle was given a pre-interview assignment to develop a social media strategy for a prospective client.

We developed a pitch deck instead. Here’s the foolproof outline we used based on the famous AirBNB pitch deck 👇🏾
Slide 1 – The Challenge: Outline the major business problem facing the client.

In her example, the client was in the live entertainment industry and struggling to make money in the wake of coronavirus.
Slide 1 Cont...

No matter what your function is, you should be addressing how you’d solve a BUSINESS PROBLEM.

This is the perfect slide to showcase your knowledge about the company, its industry, and current events.
Slide 2 – The North Star: Outline the opportunity/vision for the client.

In her example, the vision was to unlock a new revenue stream for the client by raising awareness of their rental business.
Slide 2 Cont...

Notice how we’re teeing up a social and digital campaign (her area of expertise) that directly addresses the client’s major business problem.
Slide 3 — The Solution: Introduce your creative, one-of-a-kind solution.

In this case, the solution was a social media campaign (her clear area of expertise) that played on the concept of bringing the party home.
Slide 4 – Goal: Describe the overarching goal of your solution.

In other words, how do you measure success?

In this case, our goal was to accelerate the client's bookings during the pandemic by repositioning the brand as a social-distancing-friendly activity on social media.
Slide 5 – Market: Describe the audience your solution addresses.

In her case, we outlined the client's ideal customer profile, from age to hobbies to income.

Slide 6 - 11 – Objectives, Strategies, and Tactics: Outline exactly how you'd solve the problem.

We outlined two objectives — increase bookings and increase social following. Objectives must be quantitative.

We then outlined strategies and tactics within those objectives.
Within the strategies, we outlined tactics and provided corresponding content examples that would resonate with the target demographic. Here are some examples (created in Canva!):
Notice how we went from high-level to TACTICAL and then tied everything back to a major business problem.

The average person would have sent over some example graphics.
The next part is the appendix. The appendix is completely optional.

In her appendix, we included additional content examples and a SWOT analysis of the client.
Once she sent this over, the company was foaming at the mouth to hire her. Some may say this is doing the most — but this is the difference in being able to command the big bucks.

She also aspires to run a social media agency, so completing these exercises is invaluable.
