Peek-a-boo readers, welcome to a new Halloween programme: #TopTenTuesday! Every Tuesday, we will be posting a Top Ten thread related to our article the previous Sunday. Hope you enjoy this agenda. Keep your eyes peeled for super spooky threads!
Last Sunday, we posted an article about why we like horror so much. Have you read it? If you have, let’s get started with our Top Ten Horror Movies to watch this Halloween! Don’t worry, we won’t spoil anything!😉
1. Frankenstein (1931). This one’s a classic. Obsessed with creating life from the deceased, Dr. Frankenstein successfully creates a monster; the ‘Frankenstein Monster’ we now associate with Halloween. Named one of the most influential horror films, why don’t you give it a watch?
2. Get Out (2017). More than horror, this movie covers themes of racism and slavery. It essentially deconstructs racism towards Black people. If you’d like to get a thrill but also learn about what history often fails to depict, Get Out would be the perfect movie for you.
3. Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018). Gonjiam is a Korean horror movie recorded vlog-style. Crew of a horror web series broadcasts the inside of an abandoned asylum, and as expected, paranormal events started to unfold. Watch this movie for an authentic scare this Halloween!
4. Psycho (1960). Inspired by the serial killer Ed Gein, this movie tells a story about a secretary who arrived at the Bates Motel after stealing money from her former employer. There, she meets a man named Norman Bates. What happens next? Well.. why don’t you have a watch?
5. Hereditary (2018). This move is about the Graham family who uncovers dark secrets about their ancestry after the death of their matriarch. Will they be successful in trying to outrun evil that seems to be hereditary? If you like something unsettling, this is one's for you.
6. Ring (1998). A woman hears about unexplained deaths of her cousin and her friends linked to a cursed videotape. After watching that tape, she was told she has 7 days to live so she teams up with her ex-husband to find its origin. Love a movie that keeps you awake? Watch this!
7. IT (2017). Clowns, anyone? A shape-shifting clown called Pennywise emerges from the sewer with the iconic red balloon every 27 years to prey on children. To overcome their fears, seven friends try to defeat Pennywise. This is the perfect movie for a chilling Halloween night!
8. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920). Deemed the first true horror film, this movie depicts Dr. Caligari and a hypnotised man, Cesare. When Cesare predicts a man’s death and it comes true, Cesare becomes the prime suspect. Is Cesare guilty or is this Dr. Caligari’s doing? Hmm...
9. Nosferatu (1922). Like a silent horror movie? This one’s for you. An estate agent was asked to look for a house for Count Orlok. Little does he know, Count Orlok is actually a vampire. He soon realises this dark evil and tries to save his town from Nosferatu. Will he succeed?
10. The Babadook (2014). After her husband’s death, a single mother was left troubled as her son claims he has been haunted by Babadook. She starts to feel the presence of Babadook in her house and mysterious events start to unfold. The ending? Well, that’s for you to find out!
