I'm really proud of this work, but it was emotionally tough. I wonder if we talk enough about the impact of working in campaigning / policy / research through this pandemic? Even when you're not on the frontline, the weight of sadness can feel very heavy #WhatWeNeedNow https://twitter.com/Chl0eReeves/status/1313458086917689344
I've investigated failing care homes, sat on Adult Safeguarding Groups and arranged hospice placements for people who are terminally ill. I have worried at times that I'm too hardened to such things. But reading these stories unexpectedly affected me.
It feels like we, as a nation, identified the most vulnerable people in our society - *officially* designating them as "extremely vulnerable" - sent them a letter, told them to stay at home, then, to a great extent, forgot them. We must do better than this.
I'm tired and disillusioned and feel a bit broken. But every day working on this put into stark relief how fortunate I am.
Please take the time to listen and learn about the profound impact the pandemic has had/ continues to have on people's lives. We have to keep sharing and amplifying these voices. Decisions about health and care services must include the people who most depend upon them.
