In recent years, politicians are trying to approve an Environmental License so they can cut down Coamboatá Forest, one of the few Atlantic Rainforest areas left in Rio.
There are plenty of endangered species there, the place have been held by the army for decades so no one could enter.
But last year, Liberty Media approached the project and is in close contact with the government, setting deals with a race track that doesn’t even exists and Justice has not aproved its Environmental Degradation Study.
They always come up with “there will be no impact” but we know that, in Brazil, things don’t work like that. Hundreds os trees died in Rios Olympics simply cause they didn’t plant them. To its building, the Rio’s mayor has set a deal with a company created days before, and with 0.14% the money they need in its Financial Capital. A few months ago, the CEO of the company has been connected with the Rio’s mayor corruption. Besides that, the Rio’s governor, with whom Liberty was in contact has been ousted due to corruption.
So with a new governor, Chase Carey has sent him a lobby asking “respectfully” to go on with the project of cutting down a forest for a race track. #BrazilSaysNoToDeforestation
Therefore, this is about the environment (brazilians are full of systematic deforestation), this is about corruption, and this is about Formula 1, cause the fans don’t want to see a race track similar to Bahrein and Shangain on the calendar. #BrazilSaysNoToDeforestation
We are tired of new circuits looking all the same, and this one on top of a forest!
We do have Interlagos! And even a project of a race track in the Olympic Park could be held (like Sochi) or anywhere else, since there are plenty of areas. WE DO NOT APPROVE THIS! #BrazilSaysNoToDeforestation
