What's currently happening in Bangladesh? A thread:-
Recently, Bangladesh has faced one of the most horrific incident of sexual abuse, where a 37-year-old woman was britually gang-raped by a group of young males in Begumganj upazila, Noakhali. The video uploaded went viral almost a month after on 4thOctober on all social medias.
In the video young males of aged b/w 20's and 30's, stripped the housewife naked infront of her tied husband, and mercilessly raped her.

The rapists didn't stop despite her cries as she kept begging to safeguard her body, and even called out to them as ‘father’. They never cared
According to the police officials, one of the rapist recorded their whole incident grabbed on the night of September 2 and uploaded it on social media 32 days after the incident, which is 4th October.

The incident triggered angry protests in the capital Dhaka, with demonstrators
calling for the death penalty for all the convicted rapists. Protesters march along city’s main roads, halting traffic to demand rapist’s arrest and capital punishment for convicts:death penalty.

Many students took part in the demonstration demanding justice for the rape victims
The investigation is still ongoing, revealing that the perpetrators were affiliated with the ruling Awami League party’s student wing at north-eastern district Sylhet’s MC College.
Since they were poweful people, victim's father was afraid to speak up for his daughter's justice
On Tuesday, October 6, 2020 People from different backgrounds were seen thronging the capital’s Shahbagh, Uttara, and Gulshan 2 areas to join the protests from the morning.
Bengali women are no strangers to the sexual violence and discrimination they face. They face it on a day-to-day basis, but the justification given and the invisibilisation of this violence has always revolved around the discrimination against on the basis of sex: the female sex.
The country is currently on the 7th place for the most dangerous country for women, as they have to face:-
☑rape
☑acid attacks
☑ child/forced marriage
☑ retribution through stoning/ physical abuse or mutilation
☑female infanticide/foeticide
☑sexual trafficking and slavery
War against women are increasing drastically. According to current statistics from January to August of 2020, during this amid COVID-19 pandemic
• 4 women are raped everyday
• 9 victims committed suicide
• 41 killed afterwards
• thousands of rape & abuse cases go unreported
Everyday we wake up with a new headlines of another woman/girl being a victim of male-commited crimes. We live in a constant fear that it might be our turn next. No matter age, place, religion, being a woman is a death sentence.
In October 19 of 2019, a 19year old student, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, who was burned to death in April after complaining of being sexually harassed by her school principal. Her case was solved and the perpetrators got the punishment they deserve. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-47947117
The time for equality & changes are upon us. But most importantly, it is time for a structural overhaul to address the social ills that have plagued us for centuries. Women can never be liberated and free themselves from oppression, if we don't destroy patriarchy and rape culture
