#LovecraftCountryEp8 Can we talk? I REALLY hope that something more happens with Ji-ah's character. As a Korean American woman, I need to say that 1) gumiho (9-tailed fox spirit) is NOT the same thing as a succubus. 2) There is a history of Asian women being seen as disposable &
the show thus far seems to reinforce that idea. 3) There is also a long history of Asian women as being sexual playthings and the literal dehumanization of Ji-ah to being a sexual DEMON and thus ok to throw away is REALLY problematic. This is on top of her already referencing
the idea that she is possibly seen as a "comfort woman" by Atticus. "Comfort woman," the euphemism for sexual slavery, the trafficking, brutalization, and murder of Korean women...Someone tell me that the show/book/story is going to treat her better? The show is fantastic in so
many other ways. @Ebonyteach just tweeted about the "thingification" and terrorizing of Black girls in this episode, and obviously the literal specter of Emmet Till hanging over the episode. But please don't let it be at the cost of Korean women...
