My colleague @KurinjiSelvaraj has been in the news often this pollution season. She provides the data and analysis for much of the reporting but the headline is chosen by the media houses and reporters. Don't get swayed by the headline that burning is 9X already this October 1/ https://twitter.com/Jasmine441/status/1313334398041767936
What we need to see is after the season is over, how many fires and what area got burnt. There are many reasons why the early burning is higher. We are clearly jumping the gun here in blaming the farmers so early 2/
In fact bunching of fires when the meteorology is more unfavourable later in the October and November is less desirable. If the same number of fires do happen this year, I'd rather they be spread out to earlier in the season as well 3/
What @ArvindKejriwal has highlighted in his plan will bear fruit some years down the line. This year will really now see much impact from these interventions. What will change it is - restricting private transport through some pricing mechanism, managing waste better 4/
not allowing burning in lieu of proper management, strictly imposing proper practices on construction and demolition waste. this is completely missing. None of these are really expounded in the plan laid out by GNCTD 5/
I will be happy to use the Green App and report transgressions. I have atleast 15 instances reported on Sameer and to this day @CPCB_OFFICIAL and MCD has not managed to address waste burning and industrial burning in Okhla Phase II @Jasmine441 am really hoping things improve now
