In 1955, Soviet State Coach Alexander Novokreshchonov pinned a piece on "the Canadian school of hockey" as represented by the Penticton Vees who had beaten the Soviets 5-0 at the World Championship. It was printed in the magazine Спортивные игры ("Sporting Games", July issue).
Novokreshchonov (1914-1991) had been a soccer and bandy player before switching to ice hockey in 1947. In the mid-1950s he was employed as "State Coach" by the Soviet Ministry of Sport ("Sports Committee") to supervise & monitor the development of Soviet ice hockey.
Later he would serve as head coach of Spartak Moscow and lead them to their sensational win of the domestic Soviet Championship in 1961-1962.
