Thinking about FLCL and how amazing it is. I watched the original when I was 11 on toonami, so I was around the same age as the protagonist, Naota. I didn't understand it then, but I really liked it altogether.
When progressive came out in 2018, I was 15, again, are you nd the same age as the protagonist Hidomi. I had rewatched the original good nap in preparation and understood it's themes of growing up as well as progressives themes of adolescence that I was going through as well.
Alternatives be came out a month later, but I didn't have cable and do don't get a chance to watch it until I got access to crunchyroll (shout-out to Bobo). I again shared an age with the protagonist Kana, who is 17. I've really grown up with this series and love it a while lot.
This series has helped me keep a cool head through many challenges of growing up and overall helped the process feel normal. FLCL is just an amazing experience that'll never get old, and I'm gonna make my friends watch it sooner or later because it's honestly a top 3 anime to me.
The characters unique struggles for their age range just hits me different when I relate to their troubles so personally (even though many of the troubles are fictional symbols for real issues). I'm just happy for my perspective on the story. Can't wait to rewatch it and cry :)
Side note, the pillows did an amazing job on the soundtrack. Go check them out if you haven't, but watch FLCL first ;)
Im gonna keep adding on to this thread indefinitely.
I also like how I reply related things Hidomi because she was an introvert of sorts, and at that time I had really lost all my friendships, but now I can relate to Kana, who has a small but close friend group (except for the part with P*ts, but that's spoiler territory)
