Solskjær continued to press Tottenham with 10 men after going 3-1 down and it was naive. Fans were blaming the players’ positioning but it was, simply put, tactically suicidal.

Just to clarify: Shaw's position in the second image came as a result of him and the CBs having to cover large amounts of space as the front five pressed. So, there was around 20-30 yards ahead of them and 50 yards behind them to cover.

The result? They were dragged everywhere.

The best GKs tend to be protected by solid defences and the best defences are the ones that aren't exposed to space left due to the midfield and forward line.
