END OF TRANSFER WINDOW!
ARE WE STRONGER/WEAKER THAN BEFORE?
Was getting sick of a lot of negativity on my Timeline, suggesting that following this window we go into the season weaker than we were before, so lets go position by position, vote and analyse:
END OF TRANSFER WINDOW!
ARE WE STRONGER/WEAKER THAN BEFORE?
Was getting sick of a lot of negativity on my Timeline, suggesting that following this window we go into the season weaker than we were before, so lets go position by position, vote and analyse:
GK
Previously - Rui & Ruddy
Now - Rui & Ruddy
Could argue that Ruddy is getting rusty as a backup, but Rui continues to be a leading GK in the Premier League. Need a Ruddy replacement within the next year, but I wouldn’t say we’re any weaker or stronger than we were before.

LWB
Previously - Jonny, Vinagre
Now - Jonny, Marcal, Ait Nouri
No doubt, we miss Jonny, but on paper we have added good depth and options to this area, especially once he returns from injury. Marcal looks strong and experienced, Ait-Nouri yet to be tested, but seems promising.

CB
Previously - Boly, Coady, Saiss, Donk, Kilman
Now - Same, plus Hoever & Marcal
Have we strengthened our starting back three? Maybe not. Have we added strength and options? Absolutely.

RWB
Previously - Doc, Traore & Burr
Now - Semedo, Hoever, Traore & Burr (likely to go out on loan)
Doc was a big part of our team the last few seasons, but its arguable that Semedo is an upgrade, and the addition of Hoever increases depth and options other than Traore.

CM
Previously - Neves, Moutinho, Donk, Gibbs-White, Jordao
Now - Neves, Moutinho, Donk, Vatinha
A smaller group of CM than before, but have added a more attacking option in Vatinha. The RN/JM combo is struggling and Donk has become more vital than before, and is improving.

ATT
Previously - Jota, Neto, Traore, Podence
Now - Neto, Traore, Podence
Smaller options, but Neto & Podence are gaining more experience and having more impact than before. Traore also allowed to play his natural position because of more RWB depth.

ST
Previously - Jimenez & Campana (Maybe Jota & Traore also)
Now - Jimenez & Silva (Traore option)
We’ve swapped Campana (who didn’t play a minute) with Silva (who’s been involved in all games). Not a direct Jimenez replacement/competition signed, but did we need that anyway?

CONTRACTS
We tied down our most desirable and sought after assets in Jimenez, Nuno and soon-to-be Traore. As well as Coady, our leader and Captain. Assuring our squads future and increasing our appeal to future signings.

CONCLUSION
I can see the argument both ways. We haven’t strengthened the starting XI much at all (maybe Semedo). So we STILL have a team proven to be capable of finishing 7th, but without the distraction of Europe. We do however have more depth, and more future prospects.
