I have seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer getting buckets of abuse on here and elsewhere almost constantly over the last 12 months, and I'm going to leap to his defence with this thread. Strap yourself in for some positivity. #MUFC
Last season, Ole got United to 3rd spot with a paper thin squad made up of players that nobody seems to rate. It was also the youngest squad in the entire division. Ole did this having signed two just players you would consider first teamers, plus one other in January.
The defence - which has again seems to be made up of "sh*t" players that nobody rates - finished with the 3rd best record in the league last season & with the 2nd best xGA (expected goals against) despite playing in front of a keeper that was dropping a clanger every other week
United went 19 games unbeaten in the back end of the campaign and lost just twice in their final 25 games by the close of play - STILL barely a shred of credit for Ole "the P.E teacher".
In terms of individuals, Rashford had his best ever season for United, as did Martial. McTominay thrived before being injured, written off Matic had a resurgence and Ole even got a tune out of Fred.
We've seen Mason Greenwood integrated and then blossom. One of NINE academy graduates to be properly involved during Ole's first full season in charge - which is absolutely unheard of in the modern Premier League and has received little coverage.
United, under Solskjaer's watch, have gone on a massive recruitment drive at youth level, and while development of any kid in to a top player is never guaranteed, the talent pool looks incredibly deep & exciting now.
The mess above Solskjaer and the circus at upper management level is not his fault and it's almost completely out of his control. Even that aside, the negative lens through which Ole is constantly viewed by the media, oppo fans and sadly a good chunk of United fans is ridiculous
He hasn't been backed properly in the market, he took a hatchet to the squad, overseeing double figure departures since his arrival, placed faith in young players, got United to fecking THIRD when everyone wrote him and continues to write him off.
The fallout from the 6-1 Spurs defeat was always going to give the mob extra fuel for their vitriol. But looking around at the other crazy results, not sure how rooted in reality anything is at the moment.
Has Ole been perfect? Of course not. Is he deserving of the deluge of negativity and abuse - not a f*cking chance, and he has shown more than enough to make him worth sticking with. #MUFC
