SKL our first househelp is a Manobo, she was 16* & hasn't been given any formal education, she doesnt know how to read/write so pinaaral siya ng Nanay. She was diligent, smart. I was 2 yrs ahead but we had the same elem teachers & they adore her bc she has beautiful penmanship.
On weekends we'd teach her basic reading & in return shed tell us stories of Gungoton. An epic comedy abt a dumb character yet it seems luck is always on his side. He managed to get himself a beautiful wife, a magical Banga, sandok etc.
Altho the epic was funny, its background story was tragic. Every night their elders would constantly narrate the stories sa mga bata so it'll prevent them from sleeping & whenever they are being bombed, which usually happens at night, mas mabilis ang bakwitan.
Kwento pa ni Ate most of the time they had to stay under huge balete tree bc they we're forced out of their homes.
We've only realized it now but it was necessary for the stories to be funny para instead of fear it'll be replaced with laughter

Manobo and IP had managed to cope with their traumas yet we question their means of healing (I
u afp).
This happened during Martial Law, nothing was changed when Cory came into power. It's almost 40 yrs now & IP communities are still being bombed.
